Fossils of the Ottawa valley

Nautaloid - Middle devonian - apprx. 400 million yrs old, Pakenham Ont.
Apprx 30 of these 5 inch specimens were found in small groups among clumps of fossilised coral. Both groups appeared healthy and active upto t.o.d suggesting a sudden burial, possibly from volcanic ash from coastal Apalation range.
Both species were remarkably well preserved and were being gradually uncovered by water errosion. The Mississippi R. was extremely low that year, exposing several fossil beds.
Theres a 2 ft block of locally mined coral in the east arch of the Pakenham bridge. Incredible.

Unknown - any guesses ?
This specimen would be apprx 10 feet long if stretched out. and had a 12" girth. Located in 500 million yr old shale with no similar rock strata in area.
A Paleontologist at the RMO suggests possibly an unusually large 'Trace fossil', of an animals movement.
Possibly also form of Sea-Snake or Squid Tentacle
Morris Island Conservation Area, Fitzroy, Ont.

Blakeney Mill - Lost Machinery
Located on the Mississippi between Almonte and Pakenham, Several pieces of the original 1850s mill were recovered in the early 70s and placed in the park near the bridge. I found this and a few other pieces last year during very low water levels. .
Im interested in recovering it and placing with the rest of the mills pieces. I plan to drag it on a skid down the ravine to a boat and float it accross the river.
Anibodi interested in helping in this little heritage project ? => kroesus@canoemail.com
