Six Loons on the Madawaska

Group of seven Turkey Vultures. Morris island, Ottawa R.

Muscrat
This poor little critter had a badly wounded leg, possibly from a scrap with a Hawk or even a Pike. Suspecting it to be a mother gathering food we opted not to attempt a rescue. Would have ripped our hands off anyway.

A lone White-Tail buck crossing over to one of the outer islands for the night. The next trip we saw a pair swimming to a farther island. Morriss Island Conservation Area. Fitzroy

Nest of 5 Purple Finches

Mother finch found a great place near the finch feeded to build her nest - in a 10 inch hanging flower pot of Impatients.

These lucky fellas got a daily dousing of water during the June heatwave until i discovered them. Must have helped - all 5 left the nest healthy 2 weeks later. A rare success for Finches in the downtown core.

See mother finch below.
